Ok, I live in Illinois and I had a daughter when I was 16. I was unable to get public assistance to obtain medical coverage so my family decided it would be best to give Legal Guardianship to my mom as she was able to provide medical insurance for my daughter. Now my child is 13 and has been living with me for the last 7-8 years. I am now fully taking care of her and my Mother's role has been that of a granmother. Switching guardianship back was never an issue until recently. My daughter is starting to do thnigs that she should not, Nothing major, just regular teenager stuff. However me and my mother often disagree in the way I choose to discipline my child. There is no physical abuse or any extreme things but the last argument about the way I choose to handle a discipline issue got heated and my Mom states "Don't forget I have Legal Guardianship!" To say I was totally shocked and upset was an understatement as this has NEVER come up in all these years . Now I believe my mom was upset and would not try to fight me legally but just the idea that she can and the fact that the statement was made, scares me. I need to know how can I obtain a copy of the guardianship papers that were filed, as I was a teen when it was done and how do I reverse it. What will I have to prove concerning the fact I have been caring for my child for years and not my Mom? Any help or advise is appreicated. Thanks
