    Lightbulb Guardianship for Handicapped Daughter

    State Illinois
When my Daughter turns 18 in Jan. I have to go in front of Judge to become her Legal Guardian because she is Handicapped. Do I have to get a Lawyer to do this?? I would have all papers from school psycologist and Drs. and such showing she is mentally and physically unable to care for self.... Is there paperwork I can get somewhere if i am able to do this.. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You don't need a lawyer, but if it would make you more comfortable to be represented there's no reason not to retain counsel.

What "paperwork" are you talking about?

Papers showing what I would need to take to court to prove her disabled or papers I would need for my self to show I can take care of her medical and financial needs. Thanks for the response to I just hate to pay money out we really don't have...
