Default Rentry to the US After Deportation

    Hi,
I'd like to know when or if it would be possible to reenter the US after deporation. that occurred over 6 years ago.
I do have a criminal record for fraud from when i lived there and when i got caught and was charged, they found that i had been ordered deported years before for being in the country illegally and i served 30 days and soon got handed over to the INS and deported to nigeria. I am now living in the UK and am a law abiding UK citizen with a good job. is it possible for me to visit the US as i have a lot of my family licing there. I have no intentions of staying as my life is now in the UK. can someone please advise me on what to do about this. I have a Uk passport and want to know if i would be eligible to travel under the visa waiver program.

    cheers.

You were deported, reentered illegally, and were deported a second time? Then presumably you are subject to lifetime ineligibility to reenter the U.S. - is that what you have been told?

    hi,
    thanks for your response,
I was only deported once and have not reentered the US since then which is about 6 years ago to date. I was originally ordered deported in 1995 but didnt get arrested and actually deported from the country til 2001. i have stayed out since then and been living in England and have no criminal record other than the one i had in the US

You may be able to learn your period of ineligibility from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

You use the website by going to its contact page, using the information there to contact CBP, and finding out what your period of ineligibility is. Based on that, you will be able to start to figure out what to do next.
