I could use some advice.
10 years ago i went through some serious financial problems.
I defaulted on all my loans including my car.I made a bad choice and decided to just keep useing it until they came to get it.
Problem is they never did and i still drive that car today. It was charged off long ago and does not appear on my credit report anymore.
Recently that old loan was sold and now a collection agency is trying to collect a huge ammount of money for what is now a worthless old car.
My question is about aquiring the title. What is it's status ?After 10 years is the loan still collectable ?
The car has always been registered in my name and has been insured the whole time. This has been a source of unending stress for me and i only want to see it end.
The statute of limitations governing the loan was most likely five years from the date of default, so I suspect that you are dealing with a junk debt buyer who is trying to collect some money for an expired debt. I doubt that they hold title - my guess is they only own the debt.
