Resale of a Returned Computer

I bought a computer from a retailer and a week or so later swapped it out for another one due to a scratch on the screen.

What type of law would it violate if that retailed then put the computer out on display where the public has access? My personal information was never wiped off of it, the harddrive was never formatted; all the did was put it out.

That's a privacy violation and piracy violation, correct?

Is this something that would be lawsuit worthy?

You left whatever info on the computer that was there. The onus was upon you to remove such information. Since you left it intact, they simply assumed you did not care as to what happened to it.

I would assume. When you boot it up, it boots into a profile with my name on it.

Even so, isn't that them putting my personal information out for everyone to see?

By giving the computer back to them with your personal information on its hard drive, you implicitly waived any expectation of privacy in that information.

I have either sold or trashed two computers over the years in both cases I removed all personal data from computer and one I trashed I actually made computer inoperable. I would contact retailer tell this the problem and ask them to remove the info or allow you too. I am sure they will agree to one or the other

Oh yea, it's been taken care of. I was just wondering if it was legal for a retailer to just redisplay return items.
