    Default Air Conditioner Problems

Im new here so bear with me if this needs to be moved.
Okay, Heres the story. Me and a friend moved into a single wide trailer in the country. Rent is $475 a month, deposit was $350. We were told when we came into it that it had a brand new a/c unit. When I signed the lease, the landlord told me to go by the house and try the a/c and let her know if it worked. So I went there, and after discovering she had lost the keys, finally got it on. I had to be back at work, so I made sure it came on and when it did, i left. when I returned the next day, the a/c was not working. i let her know. She sent the repair man out the next day. He tells me that the unit had not been charged with freon and that he told her to contact him when power was turned on and he would come charge the system, as it cant be done without electricity. She did not relay that to me, and thus the compressor burned up according to the technician. That was Sunday August 19 that he was out there. Since then, she sent a window unit to have installed. This unit has some quirks: it has no cover so the air flow has no direction adjustability and it blows 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so it cant be very energy efficient. Plus this is a long house, so it does not cool the back half of the house at all. She now tells me it is my responsibility to get any additional window units. Also, I just got off the phone with her yet again. She says my rent is supposed to be $40 more and that I am paying rent amount for a non airconditioned house, though we agreed it was airconditioned and it is in the contract that rent is $475. She tells me to live with it or move out. She also starts blaming me for burning up the compressor, because I turned on the a/c unit before it was charged, even though she was the one who told me to turn it on. I am frustrated obviously and would like to know what my rights are, as to whether I can have the unit fixed and send her the bill or get my rent lowered, etc. Thanks in advance for any and all help and advice, Randy U.

P.S., this is in Texas. I believe we will be moving out, but would like to atleast get deposit back.

You turned on the air conditioner and it initially worked, even though there was no power in the home? How does an air conditioner work without power?

Your rent is whatever your lease says your rent should be.
