Proving Joint Car Ownership

I bought a car with my girlfriend almost two years ago, i know stupid idea. Due to my credit we only put her name on it, i know even dumber. We are no longer together and there are some legal problems between the two of us about the car. Is there any way to show that I had equal ownership of the car when we were together even if my name was not on the loan. My name is/was on the account at the credit union that gave us the loan, havent looked to see if it is still on there. I still have the cashiers check as well a the ability to get copies of the checks that i wrote to pay for the loan during the time we were together. I live in California i dont know what kind of differece that that well make.

Who currently has possession of the car, and who is currently making payments? What do you hope to accomplish?

so i am s.o.l. There is nothing that i could do to show that the car was as much mine as hers.

I am just trying to see if there is any way for me to claim the car as belonging to the both of us when we were together. Is that possible?
