Back Child Support, and Who Is Owed

First let me start off asking,is child supprt in your opinion to compensate the one parent for doing all the work, or to match what the arent done and thus give to the child makig his financial care complete?


I read a few years ag about a 2004 law that stated after a child is 18 back child support is stillowed and will be given to the child upon adulthood instead of to the custodial parent. It also said I think the parent will still support the child in reguards to monies needed for an education period.

My father was supporting me when I was first born up until he started abusing drugs and having run ins with the law. his was in 1992. He had been battled in court but the CS people would not pu much effort into his arrest. Only recently when he was already incarcerated did the CS people have him kept in prison longer for non payment. He was mandated upon release to get a job after about 45 days. He has gotten one bt my mother is not responsible with money. She claims she is owed the money becuse she receives it and do to other personal squabbles I actually haven't much to do with. She gets his garnished wages put on her card. Can I have this transfered to me anyhow?

Laws are different in each state. Some states do permit adult children to pursue a child support arrearage, but you should not expect that you will be able to intercept child support payable to your mother.

well what are the laws in tennessee and why should she get it if I;m nt a minor anymore? her taking care of me was her 50% no matter how much effort was put into it, do you know this law I'm referencing? I read it back in 2006.

So, you paid the percentage of your support that your father did not?

The TN amended guidelines went into affect June 26, 2006.

To answer your question, here is an appeal that overturned the original ruling. It would seem that the adult child may not recover child support arrearages. (2007)

my upbriging was pretty subpar, I;d say no one paid it. My mom took care of me and hestopped helpig in 1992, He now is sendig back pay. I;m ot asking for what my mom has or got but what he is currently sending.


okay i read the cas in the appeal. umm if i hadfiled to havethe mone directed to me before this case would i had received it? and does it matter if me or my father move to other states?
