    Default Telephone Interview

I have a social security phone interview tomorrow.
What is this, what kind of questions need I be prepared for?

    Is it all medical questions?

I applied for ssd clerk at social security office filed for ssi also for me.
I am not sure which it is for. I didn't give her a lot of information because I was told to go to the office and pick up a disablity packet, so I didn't take my folder with all my papers with me. She said that was okay and that she set up a telephone interview for me. I recieved a call today reminding me that this telephone interview would take place tomorrow.
Just wondering if anyone else has done this, I can't find any information concerning telephone calls.
    Thanks

Here's a checklist an Alabama organization has prepared for people who are doing a Social Security phone interview for disability benefits. They also suggest using this medical and job checklist. (Both documents are in PDF format.)

interview is in an hour and I think I am ready.

Just got done with interview it lastd 3 1/2 hours.
I am drained, not ligable for ssi because my daughters car (book value
$2100.00) is in my name. My car worth $2900.00 and her car is the only property I have , no bank accounts, no property, no life insurances, no
    retirement or pensions.
But on the plus side they are putting thru my application for disbility,
it could take 6 months but at least I feel like I did something instead of just sittiing here being depressed. The person I was deling with was pleasant and very patient, she didn't make me feel worthless.
    Do I need a lawyer?
Thank you again for your help.

My wife is going thru the whole disability procedure (in FL). This is a timeline from the events so far:
    12/2005- initial application filed
    3/2006 - first denial received
    4/2006 - got lawyer;request for reconsideration filed
    6/2006 - 2nd denial notice received
7/2006 - request for hearing filed
8/2006 - received letter from SSA stating the had received request for hearing
6/2007 - received notice from SSA that case was being reviewed for hearing
8/2007 - was given hearing date of OCT 2007
Was told that once she had hearing, it could take UP TO 90 days to get 'official' paperwork and UP TO another 90 days to actually start receiving payments.
Lawyer has said timeframes can vary greatly even within a state (jacksonville FL is a 3yr wait on average). Many things can affect wait times and denials (age, type of disability, backlogged cases, etc). If you get denied the first time (75% of all applicants in FL are denied the first time) DEFINITELY get a lawyer. She is not eligible for SSI because of my income - only SSD. Thankfully, she had high paying jobs up until her time of disability so her monthly SSI payments will actually be more than I make in a month.
It is a waiting game. Good luck!!!

One of the benefits of hiring a lawyer (if you need to appeal) is they do all they leg work/paperwork. And belive me, there is tons of paperwork (its the gov't-can you expect anything less). Her file is 4inches thick. The only thing she has had to do (since hiring the layer) is put her signature on a handful of release forms. DEFINITELY worth the 30% they will take!!! Best of luck in your journey.
