While living in New Orleans in 2006, I received a traffic ticket in June. The ticket was for a headlight out. At the time I was being issued the ticket, I not only told, but demonstrated for the officer that it was a day running light that was out and not a headlight (this happened at night). The officer even turned the car and lights on and off to see. Nevertheless, he still wrote me the ticket (not even a warning). I wanted to contest the ticket and I tried to locate this ticket, but it never showed up in their system and no other correspondence was sent to me. I moved from New Orleans in December 2006.
A year later August 2007, I received a forwarded letter from the courthouse stating that I missed the court date and a warrant may be issued. When I finally reached someone from the office, I was told that 1)the ticket wasn't even turned in or entered until August 2006, and 2)they have no idea why I hadn't received any correspodence until now.
I was told I could still contest this ticket. I believe the officer probably still doesn't know his headlight from his day running one. However, I no longer even posess my copy of the ticket or the car.
I do not have $211 to give to these people. They will have to rebuild some other way. What can I do about this?
Thanks!
