Default What To Do With Ex's Property If You Move And He Has A Restraining Order Against Him

    I live in Indiana.
I have a protective order against my ex. I have to move out of my house. The order was court approved 3 weeks ago. He still has his stuff here. Almost none of it is of any real value. But, what am I legally obligated to do with his stuff? Most of it just needs thrown out anyways because he was a pack-rat. Old record players and junk! He also has a warrant out on him. So he can't very well have the police escort him to the house, he would get escorted to jail instead.

Also, I read that a protective order is a federal document and is in effect no matter where you are or where you live. Right now the order is good for 2 years. Is it true that it will be good for 2 years no matter where I move?

Is there some reason this won't work: Provide him with a window of time after you vacate where he can collect his property, perhaps under the observation of a neutral third party (to prevent property damage). Once that window expires, finish cleaning out the property.

How about if I pack it all up nice and neat and throw it on the burn pile?
Then I can finish cleaning out the place after he stiffed me and my kids on the rent in the 1st place. Then I can provide him a window of opportunity to pick through the ashes like the ashes of his families lives that he destroyed. Is there some reason why that wouldn't work?

If you're not interested in hearing people's suggestions, don't ask.

I am interested but why would I go that far out my way for someone who tried to kill me?
    Is that a reasonable expectation?
I mean I don't mean to be rude but why would someone go out of their way for someone to make sure that 1) they don't get arrested when you want them arrested 2)you tidy up their little lives when they trashed yours and their own children 3) clean up after them when their done sucking the rest of your life out of you.
I really don't understand the reply.
    Would you do that?
And my question was what am I legally obligated to do.

You may not mean to be rude, but you are being rude. No one here knows the details of your relationship with your ex, and are just trying to give you options on your situation as you related it.

You are legally obligated to not discard, burn, toss out a window, damage his belongings. You could contact one of his friends or family members to pick up his stuff.

I have been in your situation so please don't get snitty if you don't like my advice.
