I got a positive result on a paternity test back a few months back for a child in louisiana I did not know about. The fathers name on the birth certificate is "********". How do I go about getting my name on the certificate?
Also, if I want the child to have my last name, but her mother refuses, am I just out of luck?
What is the relationship of the named father to the mother? (e.g., her husband?) How old is the child? What has your relationship been with the child to date? Everybody involved is in Louisiana?

There is no named father, the birth certificate literally has a bunch of asterisks on it. If youre referring to me, there is no relationship whatsoever with the mother. The relationship with the child was nothing until I received paternity test results, then it was weekend visitation. I had to get a lawyer to get shared custody. Yes we are all in Louisiana.
I had thought you were censoring the named father's identity.
In most states, the normal result of a paternity action where somebody is declared the father is that he is added to the birth certificate.
You can download a Louisiana application to amend a birth certificate here (PDF).
The paternity test wasnt court ordered, I just took one, so Im assuming the state has no idea. Thank you much for the link, I found it earlier; The problem with that application is that when it refers to adding a fathers name, it says "refer to the paternity packet" which I cant find anywhere on the dhh site.
