How Long Does A Felony Stay On Your Record

My husband was convicted of a 2 felonies when he was 19. He is now 31 and spent 2 years in prison. He has not been in trouble with the law since. He now wants to coach our son's soccer team and has been asked to fill out forms for a background check. I would like to know if these convictions will still show up on a background check, or if there is some period of time that lapses before they go away? He doesn't want anyone to know about his past and would rather not draw any attention to it if it has been so long that his record would not show up. He was convicted and we live in California.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Whether they will show up or not depends on how far back they look. They never "go away". They will be on his record forever.

Okay, I'm glad somebody else brought this up because I was wondering the same thing.... so I understand that they'll 'never go away', but then another question comes to mind: Are there ways to get them lessened or waived in order to get a better job, or adopt children, or join the military?

I'm not proud of my past and regret my choices EVERYDAY. I'm frustrated that I'm defeated with everyday life situations when something about my past occurs. My wife and I would love to eventualy adopt children or even become foster parents, but we know that my past will show up.

Anybody have any advice or helpful comments for me?

Expungement laws vary depending upon the state, and availability is also affected by the conviction charge. You should post your questions in your own thread.
