On January 3, 2003, I was a victim involved in a hit & run car accident.
Both the driver & myself received permanent injuries. The day after the accident, on my way home, I saw, what appeared to be a Taxi cab, just stranded on this dirt road, approximately, 2 1/2 miles from the accident site. We went to look at the vehicle, as my boyfriend was about 2 minutes from the accident, he had passed this car. As we came up on the car, the 1st thing noticed was the front end damage. It had very fresh rubber threads on the front end and the front tire also had the fresh rubber threads. The vehicle slammed into us, as we were driving down the road, from the rear. The car then attempted to pass us, and rubbed our rear tire, which in turn, shot us across the road and head on into a pine tree.
I immediately called the Highway patrol, and they sent out the sheriffs office first to evaluate. They determined that they had a possible suspect vehicle, so the Highway patrol came. The patrolman on duty said this was very fresh and had just happened and he also felt like this was the car.
The car was impounded and released back to the owner, within 8 hours. No pictures were taken, and no investigation. We were told that the officer handling the investigation knew the owner of the car, and the accident he was in happened last year. They absolutely did nothing, and I know this was the car that hit us. The owner of the car was the owner of a large Taxi company, and his son was the driver. One week after the son got the car out of impound, the car miraculously dissapeared. Isn't there some sort of law, that the Highway patrol cannot release a vehicle, that is suspected in a Hit & run accident, until it has been investigated? Help, please!
