Question Is It Legal To Live In A Business

We've been married for two years, have 7 months old daughter and business together.
Right now he refuses to pay our rent and forces me to move down to our shop, where we do business. It's industrial building, where there's no hot water, either shower, bath, stove, nothing. Besides, it's heavily equipped and is being used as a storage for chemicals as well.

I'm afraid. Our baby is about to start walking, and there's a high chance of accident. And he doesn't understand that, or may be simply doesn't care, I don't know.

He says he can't afford 900 a mon for our house, meanwhile he's planning to expand the business, rent more units next door. And buy new equipment.

Business is DBA on my husband's name.

What can i do to stop him from moving us to the shop? I can't afford the rent on my own.
And how legal his intensions are?

    Thanks
    We live in Florida.

His intentions sound to be illegal. You cannot live in a building that is not zoned to be inhabited. Along with the possible dangers you state, it could be a matter of child endangerment.

It's up to you to do what is neccessary if you want but you need to understand the consequences of your actions.

Call the child protective services but be forewarned, this could cause the removal of your child from your household. Be prepared to deal with whatever comes at you and improve your situation so this does not happen.

As well, the building or zoning office in your city would prevent the habitation if it is illegal.

OP also posted on another site, and has been advised to get out and get help by going to family, friends, or a domestic violence shelter. Hopefully she'll take our advice, however, at this point, calling CPS should be a last resort, for exactly the reason you listed.

yes, it would be a last resort.

since the child cannot take any action on their own, mom had better do so or if the child is found living in unsafe conditions, she may not be able to stop the removal of the child.

I am more concerned for the child than mom. she can act to do whatever she needs to do. child is dependant on somebody taking care of her.
