Default Virginia Paternity Law
What about Virginia law. This week I learned that an old girl friend listed the father as unknown but gave the baby my last name. This is going to be very confusing to my son and makes it look like I am the baby's father when she has said I am not, and I know I am not. What can I do?

Default Child's Name on Birth Certificate
There is probably nothing you can do, any more than you could object if somebody who shared your surname named their child using your surname. It's their child, and their decision. If you believe you can demonstrate that the mother's purpose in using your name is fraudulent in nature, you may be able to get relief; but that is an avenue you should probably explore with the assistance of a local family lawyer.
