Default Statue of Limitations California For A Felony

    Hi,

I am new here and asking a question for a friend. He left CA in 2002 and did not know he had a warrant for his arrest until a few months ago. The warrant has been open since 2002. It is for domestic violence with a gun charge (not sure of all the specifics). What is the statue of limitations for this? What length of time does such a crime carry?

    Thanks

Since he was already charged, statute of limitations does not apply.

Do you know the statute code that he is being charged with?

I don't think he has been charged and I don't know the code. You say that the statue of limitations doesn't apply. So that means that basically it can be 10 years from now and the warrant is still valid and he can be arrested? Thanks for your reply.

Once a warrant for arrest has been issued the SOL stops. So ,yes, 10..20...30 years and the warrant will still be active. He needs to hire an attorney, in the county where the charges are, and turn himself in with the attorney present.
