Question Challenge of Paternity by a Third Party in Maryland
I was wondering if it is possible for a man other than the one listed on a birth certificate to challenge the paternity of a child in Maryland. Let me try to word that a little better:

Man A is listed as the father of the child on the birth certificate. Man B comes out claiming to be the father. Can Man B challenge Man A's legal status as the father?

Default Re: Challenge of paternity by 3rd party in Maryland?
How old is the child? Some states have a statute of limitations on rebutting paternity, but it appears that Maryland may not. In Maryland, prior to 10/1/1993, there were no controls on who could be named on a birth certificate as father of a child. After 10/01/1993, a signed Affidavit of Parentage was required to enter a father's name on a birth certificate. Paternity can still be challenged at a later date and no action is taken to subsequently remove the named father if the paternity is overturned, unless by court order.
