I had a student loan for $2000 dollars back in the late 70's that after deferments while in the military was paid in about 1983. I'm sure it was paid because I had paid off all my other student loans, along with this one before I got married. Starting in the 90's and over the years I would get a letter or phone call saying that I owed on this loan, but I'd explain that it was paid in full and I usually didn't hear from them again. Now I've been contacted by a very aggressive collection agency and their threating court action. I don't have a canceled check or anyway to prove I paid this debt. What options do I have? The loan was made at a CT school, I currently live in MA.
