Default Marijuana Found In A Car I Was Driving, in New Jersey

    okay heres my story:
i went over to my cousins house and her freind was there and after a while she needed a ride home so i offered to driver her back since it was close by and my cousin was busy making dinner. but the car i was driving was my parents car, which was not registered under my name, and the car itself had insurance but my name was not on the plan because i live at college and only come home for breaks and dont really drive the car much...so i dropped my cousins freind off at her house and then i was driving back when i noticed that she had left her purse in the car...so i head back to drop it off. so im driving back and accidentally turn into a one way street and then get pulled over by a cop...who asks for liscense and registration and stuff and then when the car isnt under my name he gets suspiscious and tells me to get outa the car and then starts to search it...he then finds my friends bag, opens it up and finds a little bag of weed in it...which i had no clue was in the her purse...i try to explain my story to the cop but he wasnt listening and told me that i was making it up...even when my cousins friends id and stuff were in the purse...so then he takes the weed and tells me that i am going to get something in the mail that from the pd after taking down my info and such...he didnt issue me any ticket or anything or that sort at the moment...

now its been 2 weeks and i have yet to get anything in the mail...and i didnt tell my parents or cousin of what happened....and am just waiting to get the papers in the mail and see if i can take care of it without telling my parents...

so when i do get something in the mail, what am i looking at...jail time? probation? fines?

btw i just turned 18 and live in NJ...and i was driving under a provisional license

Perhaps a prosecutor decided the case was too thin to merit initiating charges. Perhaps it's taking a while to process the case.

Will your cousin take responsibility for her marijuana?

yea i live in jersey too and i recently got arressted for possession. It takes a while for all the information to get processed....it;s almost been a month since my arrest and i have yet to see anything. Personally i got an attorney and she is goin to try to get the court to dismiss the report because it is my first offense and a good student. Since you just turned 18 your kinda screwed cause your not a juvinile.. so you probably gonna face fines up that can go up to at least $500 depending on the amount and quality, probably probation. Just get a attorney to help you out cause you will get the maximum punishment in NJ cause NJ is gay like that. Good luck bro.
