Default Bill Collector Threatening Court Action in Florida

Ok long story short in January I ordered a laptop from HSN (home shopping network) on flexpay. I made a payment or two on it until I lost my job and was unable to pay with a balance of $600-700 left on it.

So fast forward to this week.

I begin getting payments from a bill collector. The guy is very nasty on the phone and I do not answer because of it gets my anxiety going big time when they threaten you (I have anxiety disorder).

My main question up to this point is wether or not I can do anything, and if I can really get taken to court over this? At the current I have no job and trying to get into school. I live on the couch in my mothers home my situation is so bad.

My stomach just sinks big time when the guy calls and says this is in regards to the pending lawsuit over the declined credit card (HSN flex play bills monthly and there are no funds in my bank). To top it off the item got stolen not to long ago. I would not have had an issue sending it back. As you can imagine my nerves are all over the place.

Please give me some advice as I have no idea what to do now.

My understanding of current collection laws are that you can tell them to stop calling and they cannot call you again. That will not stop them from suing you. They have every right to file a lawsuit to try to recoup the money you owe. Whoever is calling is not allowed to threaten you, or use profane language. If all you want is to stop the calls, tell them to stop calling.
