Default Step-Parent Adoption And Terminating Alcoholic Mother's Rights in Oklahoma

My husband has a 3 yr old little boy. The mother abandoned them both for alcoholism and he divorced her. The Order called for supervised visits ONLY until she has submitted documentation of some kind of alcohol rehabilitation. She has been in and out of the hospital from drinking so much. The drs thought she was going to die 2 different times in the last 1 1/2 yr. Her mother says she is not only drinking but now she is seeing and hearing things. Since September 2006, she has seen the child 4 times and hasnt seen him at all in the last 3 months. She was ordered to pay child support, child care and a portion of the medical insurance. She has not paid a single payment. She hasnt called to even see how he was doing in 1 month. The last time she called, she wanted to see him on his birthday and we told her she could but she never called and didnt even send him a simple bday card. He has no attachment to her. He knows me as mommy. No matter how many times we have told him my name, he continues to call me mommy. We havent been married a full year yet but I know that I will want to adopt him as soon as I can. I also have 3 other children who live with us. I guess I am wondering how hard it will be to terminate a mothers rights in the state of Oklahoma (in these circumstances) and the child has a 11 yr old half sister that lives with grandma. I dont know if bio mom will voluntarily give up her rights. She only calls when she is guilt ridden and she knows he is staying home with me everyday and that he calls me mom. Please help!!? Thanks!

Have you asked if she will consent to adoption?

You can go here and research on what grounds parental rights can be terminated.

It will be difficult if the mother chooses to fight it.

Thank you, I will check it out. It just doesnt make any sense. She goes 3-4 mos btwn visits and she hardly calls at all (court ordered supervised only), she was ordered a year ago to enter into some kind of rehab for alcohol abuse (she hasnt), she has a warrant for her arrest for DUI, she still hasnt completed the Helping Children Cope with Divorce seminar, there is much more! Oh, and she absolutely refuses to commit to some kind of consistent visitation with him. We have been researching the side effects of this kind of behavior and we are afraid that damage is already done and it will only get worse as he gets older. I appreciate your help.
