I am 23 years old and very responsible. I have a wonderful husband and a 5 month old son. I had a rough upbringing and am having to witness my little sister (15 years old) go though the trials I went through as a child.
My mom would rather have not had children and she is severely neglecting my sister. The home they live in is infested with rodents and various insects and covered completely in rotting trash. I truly think my sister could be taken by CPS just on these grounds. Jacey, my sister, has completely failed her freshman year and is not in a good crowd. My mom does not care about any of this and is allowing her to continue with these behaviors. (There are also pending truancy violations.)
My question is this: I think that if I go to my mom and ask her to let Jacey move in with me to try to straighten things out she will be willing to let that happen. Truly, I think she would be relieved. What are the legal sides of this? I would have to become her legal guardian so that she can attend school, so how would I go about this? Since I would only be the guardian, would my mom have to still continue to help out financially at all?
If my mother is unwilling to agree to her moving here with me, what would the legal proceedings be like if I turned her into CPS? She also has some grandparents in her town... what would be reasoning for them to place Jacey with them over me? Our father is also around, but he would not agree to custody and does not have fit housing.
I apologize for the rant, but since the situation continues to escalate, I cannot just leave my sister there to rot. Thank yoU!!!
