Default Back Injury with Permanent Restrictions in Indiana
I got hurt at work from lifting and moving heavy weights and furniture. I went five months until they finally scheduled an appt. with a neurosurgeon for surgery. I had a ruptured disc. I was told by my doctor that I will not be allowed to lift over 50 lbs. for the rest of my life. When applying to my work place we are required to lift at least 75 lbs. My job requires extensive lifting that will affect my injury site. I am currently off work and going to the doctor for my six week appt. tomorrow. I am curious as to how much of a settlement I will be able to receive after I am released back to work. My surgeon told me to find a different job if mine won't work with me. I would then have to take a major cut in pay and most likely lose my medical benefits, only to start over at another place in hopes of getting the same benefits. What are my options if you have any answers. Thank you.

If you are released back to work, any settlement would ordinarily relate to wage differential (your benefit for any reduction in wage due to the injury), future medical care, or both. We don't have a basis to guess at any of those figures. Your best bet is to consult a workers compensation lawyer (if you don't already have one) - try to get a free initial consultation and get some idea of what you're looking at before you decide whether or not to hire a lawyer.
