Default Freelancing on an H-1B Visa

    Hello all,

Further to my earlier post "On H1B and Unemployed," I finally managed to find a company that would like to hire me on a freelance basis for a month before they sponsor my H1B. Is that possible at all? So far, I've been about 45 days without a job on an H1B.

Is there any workable option with Company B that wants to hire me as freelance, with a promise of a job one month down the line? What are my options if I really want to work at Company B? Thank You!

You aren't entitled to work in the U.S., outside of the work authorized by your visa.

Thank you, Knowitall. Here's the situation. I was laid off from Company A starting March, and Company B is in my specialty field. Everything would be fine if Company B decides to take me on board as a full-time employee, since my H1B would be transferred. But Company B says its not hiring immediately and would like to take me on freelance for a month before it gets me on board as a full-time employee. What are my options then? How do you suggest I navigate around this situation?

Thanks so much for your insights into this. It is much appreciated.
