Roommate Has Disappeared

My roommate left one evening saying she was going to visit her ex-husband to pick up some papers that she needed for court the next day. I haven't seen or heard from her since. I reported her missing to the police last night and gave them all the information I had on her. She's a severe diabetic and has not returned to get her medications even. I'm worried. She also knew that I was moving next week. We were splitting up and she was going her separate way also. My problem now is if she doesn't return, what should I do with her belongings? Legally, what are my alternatives. I can't afford storage for an indefinite period so what do I do.

Do you know if she has any relatives in the area who might be willing to hold her belongings for her?

Unfortunately, I don't. I only know her ex-husband's name and I tried to get an address on him but the software wanted to charge me $49.95 just to find out. I'm disabled and can't afford to pay money to find her. I just want to know what I can legally do with her belongings. If anyone can help me, please advise.

Laws governing abandoned property are different in each state. Your local police department may be able to advise you (but call the non-emergency line, not 911), or somebody here if you identify your state.
