Custody of a Minor Sibling

I'm wondering how possible it is to get custody of a minor sibling.
My 69 year old father is married to a 44 year old lady. He has some monir health issues, she has had 2 surgeries in the last year for brain tumors. The wife is now threatening to leave him & divorce. Due to their health issues & the wifes background, I don't believe it would be in the best interest of the child to stay with the mother & I'm not sure my father could take care of a child on his own. The child is 10 years old. I have already told my father I would seek custody. I know finances don't always play a role, but that is not a problem for my husband & I.
Any suggestions?

You will have to look into the laws of your state. Your best approach is probably a guardianship.
