Collection Agency Will Obtain a Copy of a Judgement
Hello, all. I have a question.
I live in Tennessee. I recently received a collection letter from West Asset Management in Georgia stating that they were trying to collect on a debt of $1236.53 from Bank of America which my credit report shows had been charged off.
The letter says that unless I dispute the debt within 30 days, they will assume it is valid and will obtain proof of the debt or a copy of a judgement.
What exactly does it mean when they say "a copy of a judgement"? Can I not dispute the debt for fear of legal action?
I do not believe the debt is mine, as my credit report shows that payments were made on it in December of 2006 and in January and February 2007 and I did not make the payments.
Thanks for any help.
