Recently my daughter was involved in an accident where she was stopped at a traffic light and rear ended. She pulled into a nearby parking lot and called 911 and the person who hit her followed her. She tried to exchange insurance info, but the other guy refused to give her his info because he did not think the damage was bad enough to do so, and all we got was his license plate and make of car, and we also had a witness who gave us her info. The police never showed up, even after calling 911 a 2nd time and the other driver left the scene and said he was going to the police station and make the report. We went to the police station after the other guy already left to try to make a police report and they would not even make a police report. Until about 3 weeks later, we took our estimate of repairs of approx. $1900.00 to the police station and then they did an accident report, finally. We were told that the other party's info would be investigated so we could get his insurance info. The police have been unable to get a hold of the other party, so we don't even know if he had insurance. We have $1000 deductible and would be responsible for that portion of the repairs, but I would like to recover at least $500 with the Michigan mini torte claim, but I have been told by my insurance company that unless we have the other guys insurance info, we cannot file the mini torte. Is this true? What should we do?
