Default Which State's Taxes To File

For the 2006 Tax Year, I was on an assignment in Puerto Rico till March 2006 (since May 2005) and rented an apartment there (paid by myself - not company provided). I left the company and moved back to the UK in March, 2006 (I'm not a US citizen).

I lived in New Jersey for the previous few years so my company withheld New Jersey State taxes for the tax year 2006. I'm filing my tax returns for 2006 now and am not sure which state would I need to file state taxes for.

    Thanks for your help,
    MC

Take a look at the instructions that came with the tax return packages, which will explain when it is necessary to file in two jurisdictions and how to claim credit so that you don't end up paying tax twice on the same income.
