Understanding a Workers Comp Medical Examiner's Report
There were 3 specific questions that w/c wanted answered by this Dr., please bare with me.
Q. 1.Has examinee reached a medical end result? When do you anticipate a medical end result?
A. 1. Examinee is and has been at a medical end result or maximum medical improvement. The end residua being some degree of chronic overuse syndrome of the right upper extremity with a history of deQuervain's, myofascial pain both in the forearm, upper arm, and shoulder girdle area, and some degree of aggravation of the CMC joint primarily on the right.
The aspect of this case that could be improved is the entity of chronic pain.
The medical items above listed are at maximum medical improvement.
Q. 2. Please provide your opinion as to the period of disability as it relates to the date of loss.
A. 2. The period of disability corresponds to the date of loss and also the date of lay off.
Q. 3. Can the examinee return to work full or light duty? When do you anticipate a return to full duty?
A. 3. As noted above, chronic pain issues need to be addressed prior to a meaningful return to work. It would seem to me that within a period of approximately 3 months if her care is organized and followed carefully, that she should be on a medical regimen that would be appropriate for her, and at least part of the way through an exercise rehab and be involved in vocational rehab. At that point, I believe she could resume work in what would be considered to bea general light duty capacity.
More important than specific weights being lifted is the issue of repetitive upper extremity use with reaching, pushing, pulling, pinching, and gripping would be the limiting factor. I believe that this patient should be able to use both hands in a light to moderate fashion, preferably intermittently. Highly repetitive activities and high cycle activites against force would not likely be successful for her based on either the proximal or distal right extremity problems.
I live in the state of Maine.
I have been getting partial benefits for 4 1/2 years now. I am right handed and my left hand/arm is now bothering me...my Dr. said it is because I use my left more now...well duh! I am getting ready now for another hearing with W/C (sigh) to try to get my benefits increased. I have not been able to find a job and driving and filling out job applications is getting harder and harder for me to do. Based on the report above what kind of job would I be able to do? I worked construction for 18 years. I am not stupid by any means but only have a high school diploma, before I went into construction I worked in shoe shops. I am a 49 year old woman. I also have had 3 different Dr.s M1 reports that say Permanent Impairment is expected and 0 work capacity.
Please....any advice and information would be helpful. Thank you.
