    Default Not my credit card

i am being contacted for an credit card debt that is not mine. someone must have opened the account with my information. now i am being contacted for this debt and was told "we don't care if you say it's not yours, it is your information.when i asked when the card was opened, they said in 1997. one thing that is not correct is the address. my husband and i drove by the address because it is right here in our city and it is a house that has been condemed and is falling down. these people call me all the time and how they got my phone number is a mystery because it is unlisted. i have gotten to the point that when any 800,866,877,etc. shows on my caller id, i don't answer my phone and i have told my kids and husband not to answer because what they have done is called and asked for me by first name only and have said they were a co-worker just to get me on the phone. i live in ny state and would like to know the statute of limitations on this. these people have also said it has been turned over to them for collections after being written off as a bad debt.

The statute of limitations is different for each state, and would normally start to run as of the date of last activity as opposed to the date the account was opened.

If there was identity theft, have you filed a police report yet?
