Settlement After a Car Accident

I am about to settle on two car accidents. one occured 4 yrs ago the other 5. every lawyer, of course, claimed I would get 100,000 each case.
Now with both combined I am offered an amount of 63,000. seems good but we owe hospital and doctors 37,000 and the lawyer about 23, 000.

they say the county of the accidents is veery conservative and we can not win the case. all agree it is not my fault. this will not even pay my time out of work because of it. this seems wrong but to fight in court will cost money I don't have.

any advice?. I am the loser and of course the hospt. and lawyer get paid. is this ethical?

In terms of the amount of the settlement, the best you can really do is have your case reviewed by a second lawyer.

If he tries, your lawyer may be able to negotiate a reduction of the medical liens.

Go up the chain of command and speak to the adjuster’s supervisor or manager. Adjusters get their dollar authority to settle from their higher-ups and may not have convinced them the claim is worth more than what is being offered. Perhaps you can convince them.

the medical liens can be negotiated to about 1/2
that should be more fair and get you some money to move on.

another bit of 2 cents:

Statistics say most plaintiffs see their settlements as a windfall and 95% spend it in 2 months and don't even remember what they bought.

My wife got a 28k settlement 7 yrs ago, she bought a CD and it is now grown to 36K, if she lets it sit 'til retirement it will be over 100K.
