Default Statutory rape case in California

When I was 22 (and much stupider), about four years ago, I had sex with a 14 year old girl in California. The next day, my boss (I was in the military) was getting phone calls from about it from an investigating officer. For some reason, the military never did an investigation.

The girl kept trying to contact me and I didn't want anything to do with her. Then, I got a phone call from her mother and she was absolutely ape shit, saying about how I raped her daughter and how I was being looked for by the california authorities and the military police. I apologized profusely but she would have nothing of it. Her father called me, acting like the "good cop" and trying to coax information out of me (if my hunches are correct). He and the girl's mother kept calling me so much I had to change my number.

Since then, I've enrolled in college, I'm getting my degree in May, I have a son, and I'm getting married soon. I have a completely different outlook on life and am a completely different person than I was a short four years ago. I would never again have sex with anyone 17, let alone 14.

I know I was a moron and I deserved to burn but I want to know what I have left to be worried about. I've read a LOT but I seem to be getting conflicting information on statutes of limitations, how long to prosecute, whether the time is tolled until she's 18, etc. Any help from someone that has experience from the military side would be great, also.

    Thanks.

If nothing has happened in four years, then I doubt that anything will happen.

There are a couple of other points of interest, don't know if they're relevant or not.

I am doing a background investigation for a security clearance I'll need when I graduate. I was wondering if it could come up that way.

I checked online on a couple of those "find people" websites. Neither of them said I had any warrants or anything, although one did have a speeding ticket (100mph) ticket I got years ago.

So, when you got the speeding ticket, which thighway were you on?

    Clever, lol.

And I will plug any "holes" you'd like within the bounds of not revealing potentially identifying information.

Everything that I typed is 100% factual and if all I see from this forum is judgment and ridicule, I will find assistance elsewhere.

Yes please plug the holes. As you wer told after this much time it isnt likely you see any further problems from this. I do hope that you learned from this as I find a 22 year old having sex with a 14 year old appalling! to answer your question well you already got it. No one here can predict the future (Maybe Aaron lol) but its safe to assume if this much time has gone by with nothing your safe.

I appreciate your going back and posting this, more tactful contribution. I have read many of your posts in other parts of the forum and found that you spoke true the vast majority of the time. Judgmental, sure, tactless, oh yes, but you had to have something going for you, or you would have been banned long before becoming a senior member

After reading your earlier posts, I had written a giant response about how much I am appalled at my own actions concluded with a goodbye but deleted it for hope that some constructiveness could come out of this thread. Suffice it to say that I am ashamed, embarrassed, and disgusted by certain aspects of my life and have gone whole-heartedly into fixing them.

And thanks to the mods for cleaning this up.

I think theres a compliment in there somewhere lol. I call them as I see them and always will. If you read between the opinions you will almost always find your answer. As stated i do hope you have learned and it seems you have best wishes

The gratuitous bashing of people who post legal inquiries needs to stop.

People who wish to comment on personal issues should do so in Banter. Those who wish to debate issues can use the Debate the Issues forum.
