Lawyer won't communicate with me

My medical mal-practice attorney refuses to take my phone calls. I am always given an excuse the few times I have tried to call him. He never returns my phone calls, or even acknowledges my written communications. He has told another member of my family that did manage to catch him in the office a few times,stories that- this is happening, or that is happening and that "my lawsuite should be ending by---(he would name a future month but the month came and went without a word from him).
This nonsence has gone on now, for four years. Ikeep thinking surely he will have my case completed this month, or next month, aetc. I keep waiying and hoping, but he is completely silent. I have sent him letters periodically over the past four years, asking him to please give me the "satatus of my case" every one or two months, but he just leaves me in the dark, knowing NOTHING! Do I have any recourse? I can't afford to start this battle all over again, besides the statue of limitations of my state for filing my case ended two years ago. I keep hoping each day, that he will let me know the case is complete, but each day, week, month, passes by in dissapointment and frustration for me, and total silence from him. He really acts to me as if he may have been paid off to stull my case indefiniely. I am very ill, thanks to the medical situation that the miss diagnosis caused me. I am afraid I am going to die, without seeing any conclusion to my case. I am open to any logical suggestions.

If you don't want to try to resolve the case without a lawyer (which you shouldn't as the defense lawyers would probably steamroll you), you either need to keep working with this lawyer, or see if another lawyer will take over the case.

Camp out in your lawyer's office.

Be nice.

Make sure all fires are extinguished before you go to sleep.

Dispose of waste and food scraps properly.

You have to go to the Professional Board of Responsibility in your state, fill out a form stating what did not go right. Many times a case is dismissed because of bad communication between client and attorney. You must see to it that you document every contact, every letter, email, or phone call. They will say that they tried to reach you and could not.
