Unhappy Job Offer Put On Hold

Ok so on Jan. 8th 2007 applied for an IT job with Pomeroy IT solutions who works with hp. For a month didn't hear anything from them. Then on a friday Feb 2nd 2007 a human resources rep. emailed me forms to fill out becuase I got the job. Keeping in mind no phone screen or interview just out of no where got the job. So I quickley filled out the forms and returned them proptly. Finding out on that Friday that I start on Monday, so franticly trying to find out building location and start time to show up for work I finally find this out, on monday feb 5th 2007 after trying to find out where the location of building recieved and email from another human resources person that the job was put on hold and that I dont have a job. So then letting this all settle in on tues. feb 6th I send that same person an email asking as to why the position was put on hold. no response. to day is thursday feb 8th so I call the human resources manager to find out what in the world is going on and get voice mail. Stil havent heard anything. at this point im really concerened because this company has all my personal infromation and I have no idea if the job was real or not, or whats going on. so is there anything else I can posibly do since im technically employed with company.

Why do you think you are employed with them?

That does not mean you are employed.

I suggest you keep asking them what is going on.

So does that mean then that any company can tell you you have a job and ask you to fill out all legal papers and then tell you that you that job basically dosn't exist anymore and its not considered being employed with that company and not illegal

Business conditions can change, even at a moments notice.

A few years ago, I sent out an offer letter to someone. We also were awaiting the start of a few other new employees who had to give notice. The VERY NEXT DAY the company as a whole suffered completely unforeseen, crippling financial losses that eventually put the company out of business. In a desperate effort to remain in business we laid off fully half the staff (including me!) and rescinded the job offer(s) we'd sent out. We had had NO warnings that we were about to lose fully half our funding until the very day it happened.

Are you suggesting that under the law, we should have been obligated to continue to hire these new employees even as we laid off vitally needed employees that had been with us for several years?
