Collection in Georgia
I received a phone call from a man last night that stated he was from a law firm in Portland Oregon, and that he was informing that in 24 hours they were going to sue me for fraud. He addressed me by my maiden name (I have been married for 9 years). He said that account was for Bank One. The last time I made a pyment on this account would have been 12/93 or 1/94. This account is not on my credit report, as obviously the 7 years has passed. But he said that I was going to have criminal and civil charges filed against me if I did not pay $2500 in 24 hours. I asked him their address and he refused to give it to me. I then told him that he had to send me something in writing, and he said no he did not, and named several dates since 2001 where other collection agencies (he said) had tried to get in touch with me. He said they were suing for fraud, because according to them I overinflated my income on the application by 15,000 and that was fraud and I would be taken to criminal court. Now I know that all the statue of limitations has run out on this a very long time ago, but this whole thing caught me totally by surprise and I told him that I was taking my 24 hours and hung up.
Should I just wait to see if I really get sued, or what? All I have for this "Law Firm" is their phone#, he said they would not give me their address over the phone because they want to protect their employees, but when I asked him to mail me proof of this because it was the law that he had to notify me in writing, he said no we do not. I am at a total loss on what to do...any help you can give would be great...
