Default 17 Year old wants to join the Navy
My name is Joshua Fernandez. I live in California and I am 17 years old. I want to join the Navy, but my Father has passed away and my mother abandoned me. So technically I have no legal guardian, but I am not emancipated. what can I do? Is there any way to just give custody to my Aunt without having to pay all those fees?

Thank you

Will your mother voluntarily execute a grant of guardianship to your aunt?

She has already given my Aunt a notarized letter giving her custody of me. The school accepted it, my social security excepted it, but the Navy wont. I have tried to get into contact with my mother but she never calls me back, I have left many messages for her.

Particularly if you can demonstrate that you would be accepted into the Navy upon emancipation, you may qualify for emancipation under California's laws. Details are here.

It would be easier, of course, if your mother would simply grant you permission to enlist, in a manner acceptable to the Navy.
