Question Benefits Cut Off in Michigan
Hello. I live in Edwardsburg MI. I was injured on the job back in Feb of 2006. I am in need of a good "employee-sided" Attorney. I have contacted one attorney in Kalamazoo and met him once. He told me he was going to contact my Workers Comp Insurance and also the Voc Rehab people on my behalf. I've heard nothing back from him. I have made several attempts to contact him again, but to no avail. Since my initial meeting with him, my benefits have been cut off and are now being denied. I am getting extremely concerned that I might miss some deadline to file an appeal. I need good representation and someone that will communicate with me. Would you have any suggestions for someone in my area?

Thank you for your time.

Most message boards cannot provide referrals (aaron can correct me if I am mistaken about this one) and reputable attorneys do not troll message boards looking for clients.

May I suggest contacting your local bar association for help?

I don't mind if somebody wants to give a referral backchannel (e.g., by private message), but it becomes problematic when people post referrals in public threads.

Here's a link to the leadership of the Worker's Compensation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Also, the Kalamazoo County Bar Association offers a lawyer referral service.
