    Default Caught Shoplifting at Target

I am 45 yrs old, never in trouble for anything. Was caught stealing some toys & a pair of earrings, value under $50.00, from a Target in Maryland. I was given a notice to appear in court in less than a week. I have no idea what will happen to me. Any help Please!!!!!!!!!!

Consult with a criminal defense Attorney and ask him if diversion is an option for you

Forgot to add. I recieved what looks like a ticket, with a trial date, which is on Monday, a few days away. Is this my trial or just a hearring, and do I need a lawyer? And when can I find out if I qualify for a public defender?

It was a notice to appear which is a "ticket" you were cited and released! That date is your first court date or arraingment. Yes you need a Lawyer! Many good Attorneys offer "free" consultations take one up on it! Ask Attorney about diversion and other option available to you. If you feel you do not have the funds for an Attorney on your court date put in a not guilty plea and ask for a Public Defender

I had my hearing, I'm worried because the charge is "theft under $500.00. The total amount was under $50.00. Others in court had a charge of "theft under $100.00. I am sooooooooooooo sick over this, I've never been in any trouble before. Can anyone give me any info, please!

    If found guilty

    fines

    probation (summary)

    community service

    possible ban from store

    to name the most common

Jail time is very unlikely consult with a criminal degfense Attorney and ask if diversion is an option for you

Thanks, but do you know why my charge was for under $500 and not under $100. This really worries me : (

This can work in your favor as it can be reduced in a plea bargain if you opt to take that route
