    Default Changing son's last name

    My son is 16 months old and has his fathers last name, I want him to have my last name since there is no longer a future with us. We were never married so does his father have any say so in the matter? Where do I go to start the process? We reside in Chicago. Would it be easier to just hyphenate his name or would it be the same process?
