    Default Rights to Name My Child

    My girl friend will be 17 when she has the baby. i will be 19 what rights do i have in the childs last name bieng mine if we are not married. what rights do i have in naming the child period.

    You need to establish paternity after the kid is born so you can pay child support.

    Hire a lawyer to make sure it is done right.

    You have no rights until you sign an acknowledgement of paternity or petition the court to establish paternity which will involve a court ordered DNA test and you will have to pay child support and you can petition for some form of shared custody and visitation. Because she is a minor, her parents will have to sign legal documents even though she is a mother and responsible for her child. You are luck the age of consent is 16 in Ohio or you would have other problems
