Thumbs up Great Grandmother-Legal Guardianship in CA.

I am 72 and have legal guardianship pf my great grand daughter who is 11. I have had her since she was infant. She was neglected. CPS was never involved. She calls me mom. I love her. I'm wanting to sell my house and relocate to Nashville, TN to be near my 44 y/o daughter who is the aunt to my great grand daughter. She has been very involved financially, visiting, calling all of child's life. The father of child has been unlocatable all this time and the mother is around but exact address unknown. Since the child is not in the state system and never has (all issues of legal nature done privately through atty). What are the easiest (hopefully cheapest) way to get permission to leave Calif. I was told I cannot relocate the child (which is ridiculous since both parnets have abandoned the child in every way). I also don't want to wake up the abusive absent parent who has never supported this child in any way. Please help! Thanks. Jennie in Sacramento, CA.

You were told by whom that you cannot relocate with the child?

If you can find the mother, you can get her permission to relocate. If not, you may wish to consider seeking a guardianship through the courts.

An attorney in Sacramento said the Guardianship act or laws of California state permission must be granted by court to relocate. Is that true or is that wrong information I am getting. Thanks. Jennie, 72 year old great grandmother of an 11 year old great grand daughter.

If the guardianship is through the courts then yes, you would need the court's permission. Get everybody to consent, and the court should have no problem approving the move.
