    Default Joyriding on a permit

A couple of months ago, i made a stupid decision and decided to take my parents car out late at night while they were asleep and go joy riding. This wasn't the first time, and i thought that i was a great driver. During the incident, i then had a dj permit and was scheduled for a road test. While back on a country road, i decided to drive over the speed limit, lost control, and ended up in a ditch. An officer did an accident report and i was given five tickets. I recently went to the town court and had my fine reduced. I was given two tickets total. One ticket for driving without a valid license, and another for speeding, speed not stated. I recieved 6 points on my permit, but had four taken away by completing a defensive driving course. I currently have two points on my driving record. However, i am posting because i am wondering how long the dmv will suspend my permit for. The officer who did the accident report took my permit at the scene, and i never saw it again. However, my permit has remained valid all this time, and im not sure if it still is or not. I paid the two tickets, about a week ago, and those are settled. My laywer thinks that i will have my permit suspended for six months, and after that i will be able to apply for a road test.

Now that i have given all the information, i have many questions as to what the outcome of this might be.
How long, in your opinion, will i have my permit suspended? What are the chances that it could be sooner than six months?
Will i be able to apply for a road test as soon as i recieve it back?
When does the suspension period start? after my tickets have been paid or after i recieve a letter in the mail stating my suspension length?
What actions can i take to lessen the suspension time? or cant i do anything?

This bad decision has made life pretty rough for the time being and i am anxious to get my life back to normal. Please help answer my questions.

The only ones that can answer your questions are at the DMV. Go by, wait forever in line, and ask.

The consequence will depend upon the laws of your state, which you chose not to identify. Most state DMV's put a lot of information online, so you may be able to find the information you want on their website.

From the site above it states your permit will be suspended for 60 days if you are convicted of a serious crime (the example they give is 3 pts or more).

Hey thanks a lot for the find happy trails! I hope that its only 60 days. Why do you think my lawyer said it would be for six months after i was convicted for the tickets though?

I don't know, that would be a good question for your lawyer.

The site above was updated 05/06, so it appears that it is current at least through May.

That site also has other links, where you can check on the status of your driving record.

If it turns out that i will recieve my permit back in 60 days, will it go back to being like a regular permit. Will i be able to apply for a road test when i get it back? Or are there restrictions for people who get charged for driving without a license?
