Changing From L1 to H1 Status

I am with Comp A on L1. Comp B is ready to sponsor H1 for me under 2007 quota. In case I get my H1 in Oct 2007, is there any way for me to continue with L1 till some time before making a shift to H1 visa. I understand that there is some status change (from comp A to comp B) which makes one to work on H1 immediately once the petition is valid. However is there a mechanism by which the status change can be controlled by me?
