As a maryland license holder, I received a ticket for speeding a while back. I missed my court date due to sickness, appealed for another court-date, and was denied, appeal again with doctor's papers... and was finally given a court date. BUT... since everything took so long, they wanted me to pay the fine at court... I figured ok... I'll probably win it back when I go to court.... turns out ... this technically convicted me for the offense... and the maryland MVA sent me a Notice of Point Suspension saying that since I've gained 8 points in 2 yrs they want to suspend my license for 30-90 days.. unless I'd like to request a hearing to show why they shouldn't suspend my license... I figured I would tell them... "hey guys.. hold on.. i'm going to court for this pretty soon..." but to convey this to them costs $125.. Yes. Their so-called "hearing"... so I said forget it.. I mailed in my license and figured I'll drive extra nicely from the start of the said suspension date on the notice till the end.... (besides.. I had an extra driver's license lying around from me having lost it, getting a new one, and finding the old one again)... Anyways.. 2 days beore my expected suspension date.. I'm driving in VA.. and I get pulled over for speeding.. and my license comes up suspended... the cop says that it might be from charges 5-6 yrs back...though he couldn't explain it either...nor could he tell me if it was suspended in MD or not.. At first I was reaaally confused... after all was said and done... it hit me... when I mailed in my other driver's license.. Maryland must've suspended it right away... not by the date said on the notice..... What should I do now? will VA tell MD I was driving on a suspended license? the cop basically told me that i need to show up in court for the speeding.. and to take care of the whole suspension confusion before my court date in VA... but worst case scenerio... if my original MD speeding charge stays... meaning... my license will stay rightfully suspended.. what is my best angle then?
