Default Possibility of Jail For Unpaid NY Tickets

I recently recieved a letter in the mail from DMV saying I had open tickets from 1998 that needed to be taken care of or else my license will be suspended. There were 7 different tickets ranging from speeding to stop sign infractions (no DWI, DUI or reckless). I went to the court to pay them and the courts pulled up my license record and advised me I had 7 speeding tickets that were unpaid along with around 15 others.

I advised I would be willing to pay all of them however the PD advised the fines would be very high. I said ok, well what are they. He said I would probably have to do one month in jail.

After hearing this I left the court house and figured I should get some legal assistance. Has anyone heard of this before? People going to jail who are willing to pay for there tickets??

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

The possibility of sending you to jail is for ignoring the court. I can't believe that you still have a license. You are correct in figuring you need an attorney.

Wrong you had a court date for each ticket you failed to deal with!

FYI I hired an attorney (Jan Goldman). Has anyone had any experience with him? Do you think hiring an attorney should be able to keep me out of prision

I found out that I had 21 open tickets (over a 9 year span)7 of which were speeding (none over 25 miles per over the limit). The rest were random tickets (stop sign, taligaiting, etc..)
