Getting a referral bonus while on H1B

Hi

I am working for company A (which also holds my H1B) and i had recommended a few people to Company B. Company B has given me 2 checks for referal bonus. I wanted to know if it is ok for me to receive payment from a company that doesn't hold my h1B (in this case Company B)?

That probably would be categorized as a gift, not compensation for work performed - unless you are acting as a de facto recruiter for the firm, in which case you're putting your visa at risk. How much money are we talking about?

Hi

Till now i have received two checks. one for $250 and the other for $500. The one for $250 is already deposited and the other check ($500) is still with me. it is possible for me to get one more check for $1000.00, if i recommend 2 more people to them.
I am not sure if they have given me the checks as a gift, or as work done for company, 'cz they had taken my social security number.
Is there any way to find out?
