Default Military and Common Law Marriage

Does the US Army acknowledge common law marriages? I live in the state of Texas and I know that it is recognized but I need to know if the military recognizes it or not. Please email at gold4571040@yahoo.com and let me know!

Ask the military; it doesn't matter what we think.

I would expect that they would make their own assessment of whether or not the marriage is in fact valid. The easiest way to avoid problems is probably to undergo a civil ceremony.

Exclamation Re: Military and Common Law Marriage

The state of "Texas" recognizes 6 different types of marriages. You do not have to conform to anyone else's idea of marriage. I used to take law classes and was bothered by fam. They would say my husband and I were not married, "living in sin." So I went in closed chambers to speak with a Justice of the Peace and he explained all 6 to me. If you were in Tx then all others would have to recognize it, as well. It is your RIGHT. You don't move to another state and become unmarried or lose your rights. They've told me because I had no marriage lic., I am not married. Really that is why my diver's lic. and all other docs bare my husbands name. I also said, "so my great grandmother was never married??" She had a certificate, ahhhh....another type of marriage. My advice to you is when you were born into this country you were born with God given RIGHTS, so let no one tell you, you can't. Last I checked it said, what "God has joined together, let no man put assunder."
