Deadbeat Boyfriend

I was living with my boyfriend for about 2 years when we broke up due to his problems with narcotics. He is now in jail. My landlord showed up at the door to say that he hadn't paid the rent for the last 2 months (I gave him my share of rent, but he never even gave anything to our landlord).
Now, my landlord is looking at me for 2 months of rent owed....
What is the best way to go about this? Pay the rent and then go to small claims against the ex boyfriend??? Can i pay the landlord my half (again) and tell him that he has to go to the ex-boyfriend for the rest of the money??

The rent needs to be paid in full. You will need to pay it and try to collect from ex later.

The landlord doesn't have to accept only half the rent.
